COMPETITION

Thank you very much to everyone who participated in Segunda llamada´s 2011 poser competition.Having received 220 proposals from 8 countries in the first edition in 2009, I am happy to announce that this year we received 1,340 posters from 40 countries.

Over the next few weeks will carry out the processes of pre-selection of finalists and then votation of the international jury to select this year´s winners.

The results will be announced on July 20, 2011 (one month after the original date).We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this delay may represent.

LOURDES ZOLEZZI / MÉXICO

Born in Mexico city in 1972. Studied a BA in Graphic Communication Design at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM-X) and Master studies in Visual Arts at Academia de San Carlos (ENAP-UNAM). Has worked as an Art Director and currently develops graphic concepts for multi-disciplinary projects. Her personal work includes themes like violence, hunger, and children rights.  Has earned awards like: Philippe Apeloig Prize (Ningbo –China) and the 3rd place at the Digital Art Biennial (Rzeszow, Polonia) among others.

SUSANA MACHICAO / BOLIVIA

Visual communicator and graphic artist. Design consultant for diverse companies trough her own study Machicao Design. Her strengh relies on having a global marketing vision of all the projects she undertakes.

Her work has been published in many books and has participated in exhibitions in more than 16 countries. Has coordinated the Bolivia International Poster Biennial and “Latin Types” Biennial. Is a co-founder of DESIGNINK and directs the group “Bolivian Graphic Designers” and the project “Women designers”. Has been a jury member for the International Poster Exhibition Yaku (Peru) and for Poster for Tomorrow (Paris).

RENE WANNER / SUIZA

Grew up in Zurich and studied in Switzerland, Canada, the United States and Germany, finishing with a PhD in experimental physics. Started collecting posters -as a hobby- in large numbers in 1977 during a business trip.

Since that year has been behing the  website “Rene Wanner´s Poster Page”, a website initially planned to showcase his personal collection of posters, but inicialmente planeada para mostrar carteles de su colección personal, but over time has become an essential reference in the poster world, today is a great source of information on events, exhibitions and news, and is visited by graphic designers, students, curators, collectors posters and dealers in over 90 countries.

Has been a jury member in international competitions in Ukraine, Russia, Moscow, Iran and China. His hobbies include: internet, computers, photography, travel, books … and posters, as you may have guessed by now

LUBA LUKOVA/ ESTADOS UNIDOS

Internationally recognized artist and designer based in New York. Her solo exhibitions include: UNESCO, Paris; DDD Gallery, Osaka, Japan; La MaMa, New York; and The Art Institute of Boston. Awards include: Grand Prix Savignac, International Poster Salon, Paris; and Golden Pencil, One Club, New York.

She has received commissions from Adobe Systems, Sony Music, Canon, Harvard University, and the Cultural Ministry of France. Lukova’s work is represented in the permanent collections of MoMA, New York; The Library of Congress and Bibliotheque nationale de France. She holds an honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts from Lesley University.

GUSTAVO MORALES AINSLIE/ MÉXICO

Born in Mexico city in 1979. Studied BA in Graphic Communication Design at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM-Azc) and Professional Photography at EAF. Currently studies a Master in Illustration and Design, working on a thesis on social design; also works with his friends at Molcajete medios design studio and as a photography and design teacher.

Since 2008 coordinates the project Segunda llamada -graphic design to raise awareness on environmental issues-. Has participated in poster projects like: Colectivo Kikiriki, 76 Designers for Fukuda, Where is my vote?, No more hunger, Green Plus you, Good Posters Hong Kong and International Plakatausstellung Leipzig.

Loves cheese and believes that all designers must use their super powers to make the world a better place.

JUAN CARLOS DARIAS/ VENEZUELA

Graphic designer since 1986. Worked as director and designer of the magazine Clips, and Popder Joven. Founded and directed Darias Institute of Design since 1996. Has been responsible for the design of catalogs, brochures and magazines for Sheraton hotels, Art Museum La Rinconada, AVA Gallery, and Print and Design Museum Carlos Cruz-Diez, among others. Art director and writer for specialized magazines Logotipos and Ve. Was an instructor in the extension area of the Universidad Simón Bolívar and is a friend of ICOGRADA.

Researcher and lecturer, is also director of the Venezuelan Design Gallery Curator and designer of the exhibition “The Graphic Quixote, 400 years of the travel of that sad figure ” (2004), and The Big Five of Latin American Graphic Design (2009) in the city of New York.  Since 2004 represents Venezuela as coordinator for the Biennial Tipos Latinos, participating also as a jury member in 2006 and at the Third Biennial in 2008, since that year is one of the authors of Foroalfa. Has been part of the jury of international events like ” Death Is Not Justice” and “Greenplusyou”.

ERIC OLIVARES/ MÉXICO

Born in 1970 in Mexico City. BA in Graphic Design, Master in Digital Arts. He has worked since 1987 for various international companies and institutions developing: Poster Design, Corporate Identity, Illustration, Exhibition Design, Set Design, Editorial, Packaging, Videographic Design, Multimedia and Electronic Art.

His work in design, illustration and art has been published and exhibited in Mexico, America, Europe and Asia. Has been awarded the Bronze Medal in the 14 th International Biennial of Poster in Warsaw, Poland and other international awards for design and art in America and Europe, being part of the collection of museums and institutions like the Museum of Design Zurich the Poster Museum in Warsaw, the National Union of Graphic Artists in Paris, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition,  the HUB Design Museum Barcelona and the Design Museum in Tehran, among others.

Has participated in lectures and teaching workshops in various International Conferences and Biennials of Design like the 22nd International Biennale of Graphic Design Brno 2006, Jury member at the 11th International Poster Biennial in Mexico 2010 and in the 2009 Taiwan International Design Competition, among others. Develops 360 º  visual communication and electronic art  projects, organizes design exhibitions and cultural events from his studio: Inlightdesign.es

Has written several articles and contributed to magazines and books in America and Europe. Author of the book “Drawing for Graphic Designers”, Edit. Parramón. February, 2011.

FÉLIX BELTRÁN / MÉXICO

Born in Havana, Cuba on June 23, 1938, he is currently a Mexican citizen. In 1956 he traveled to the United States, where he graduated in the School of Visual Arts and the American Art School, both in New York. He also studied at the Art Students League of New York and at Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid. He was a scholar of the New School for Social Research, New York, the Graphic Art Center, Pratt Institute, New York, and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, Washington, DC.

Nationally and internationally, his works have participated in 456 exhibitions and 66 solo exhibitions, these works are in the permanent collections of 60 museums.

He has written four books and his articles and interviews have appeared in publications both of national and international circulation. Has received 132 awards in various events, and earned an Honoris Causa Doctorate in Arts from the International University Foundation, Delaware. He has participated as jury in 103 events and since 1966 has offered conferences and workshops, all in national and international events.

PARISA TASHAKORI / IRÁN

Born in Tehran, Iran in 1973. Masters degree in Graphic Design and  member of the Iranian Graphic Designers Society. Works as art director in her own studiok, focusing primarily on social and cultural communication.

Her work has won awards at the festival COW! In Ukraine in 2007, the Triennial Ekoplagat in Slovakia  in 2005, the Tehran Poster Biennial  in 2004, and  the Ukraine Ecoposter Triennial in 2003, among others.

Has participated in over 45 national and international exhibitions and biennials from various countries. Been a jury member at events and festivals in Iran, France and Ukraine.
